Did you use the "o" option to tar, as in tar xvfo MinneView-0.1.tar ? The (unfortunate!) default for "tar" is to change ownership of the files and directories it creates, so you don't own them. The typical result is to create the top-level directory and then discover that it can't create any files in it. Try ls -l in the directory it just unpacked. You may have a hard time getting rid of the new directory; it may be that only a system administrator with superuser privilege can do that. You might be able to rename it though, using "mv". The "o" option means "don't change owner" and prevents this problem. Stuart Levy
