I think it's better than the way it works now - right now it seems
like, for example, if you change the color of the world which also
makes an object which already had a color appear to change color there
is no obvious way to get the old color back.  If this is not true and
there is some way to get the old color back, I must have missed it and
other people probably did, too (I know you can hit the revert
button, but that seems like it does not give you fine enough control
since it reverts the entire appearance).  The old color is still
there, but that doesn't really matter if there is no way to get back
to it.
