Sounds true. It should be enough to append the following to CFLAGS: -arch m68k -arch i386 and remove *.o and .../lib/NEXT/*.a, and re-make. "ar" is unfortunately unable to replace fat object files in a library; it can only succeed if it creates the library from scratch, whence the need to remove the *.a files before building. I haven't tried this.
