Finding nearer sites: have you tried archie? Other sites do mirror our
software, but we don't necessarily know where they all are.
If you do find a mirror site, make sure they have at least geomview 1.5.0.

FTP restarting: our server does support the REST command.
I just tried the following with both SGI and Linux ftp clients:

    ftp geom.umn.edu
    ...
    ftp> binary
    ftp> get geomview-sgi.tar.Z   localfile.tar.Z

    <ctrl-C>
    306872 bytes received ...

    ftp> restart 306872
    restarting at 306872. execute put, get, or append to initiate transfer.
    ftp> get geomview-sgi.tar.Z   localfile.tar.Z

and it works, appending to "localfile.tar.Z" from that byte offset.
So, you just need to note (ls -l) the size of the file at the time the
transfer breaks. Start up FTP again, say "restart <that many bytes>",
and then repeat the same "get" command as before.
