The problem was that a newline was sent after the string. My program asked if a character was waiting and if so did a read. If there is just white space, the read skips it and waits for something else. In other words, my program hangs. The only problem I have now is that geomview isn't accepting interest commands from my program, but it will accept them if I type them into the command box. I'll try to figure out what's causing this. Thanks for all your help, Gann
