[ REQ 5948]: Geomview Syntax Question

A simple question that I am having difficulty resolving:

I have created and loaded a set of oogl objects via one of my custom
modules into Geomview. I am now writing a form to control certain
compound attributes of these objects appearance. However I cant figure
out how to modify the appearance of already defined objects via gcl: I
dont want to redefine another object with a different appearance by
re-entering the data (the objects are exceedingly large -> 10X10^5
quads) I just want to the equivalent of making modifications via the
appearance window to an objects already loaded from the module.

for example if I were to enter the following object

(new-geometry obj1 {ZMESH 2 2 0 1 2 0})

how would I issue a gcl command to modify aspects of obj1's appearance
without redefining it (making edges appear, changing shading system etc.)?
I have tried various ways of reading OOGL appearance objects in and
"attaching" them to already constructed models but I cant seem to get
anything to work....

Im sure this is just a simple aspect of OOGL/gcl syntax Im failing to
pick up on.

Thanks for any assistance..!
