Hi. There's a new geomview release in beta form which does have a "snapshot"
command which saves PPM images. I'm not certain whether it works when
you specify "default" as the camera name; probably "focus" is a better choice,
as it refers to the real camera window (or the last one the mouse cursor
touched, if there are several).

You can get the full distribution in binary form at
   ftp://geom.umn.edu/priv/slevy/geomview-161b8-solaris.tar.gz
or in source form, at
   ftp://geom.umn.edu/priv/slevy/geomview-161b8-src.tar.gz

If you try it, let us know how it goes.

The rib-snapshot command's output would probably only be useful if you
have RenderMan (or something that reads .rib files). It, too, is more likely
to work if given a real camera rather than "default".
