Hi.  I've no idea what might cause this, and we have no 6.2 machines here,
but would you be willing to fetch a more recent release of geomview?  
There's one at
   ftp://geom.umn.edu/priv/slevy/geomview-161b8-sgi.tar.gz

which has a number of changes & improvements since the 1.6b2 you've got now.
If you try it, please let us know whether it works.
