As I think the new manual explains, the normalization controls are now on the
Appearance panel.  (They're not properly controlling the object's "appearance",
but normalization is controllable independently for each object just as the
appearance controls are.)

You can disable normalization by default, if you like, by putting the line

   (normalization World none)

in the file "~/.geomview".
