Oh, dear. Someone else recently reported seeing an un-helpful core dump
when they compiled geomview on their Linux box using some commercial
Motif libraries. We'd only compiled it (for Linux) with some ancient
Motif 1.1 libs, compiled from source. And I don't think we've ever
compiled geomview with Motif later than 1.2.4 on any platform.
So maybe there's some bug/incompatibility in the way we're using Motif.

As a test, could you try running geomview under the debugger? You
might recompile the geomview/x11/O.linux/*.o files after changing the
makefiles/Makedefs.global setting to ``COPTS = -g'', then build gvx,
and either run ``gdb gvx'' or ``geomview -gdb''. Then check the
stack backtrace (type ``r'' to start geomview, then ``bt'' after it
crashes) and let us know what it says. The other guy who'd reported this
found it crashed in __Xm_fastPtr, i.e. in some internal Motif routine.

If this really is a library incompatibility, I'm not sure how we're going
to debug it...

  Stuart
