lisp library

I get really strange behavior when I have the declaration

Lake *lake;

right before the LDECLARE statment in a lisp function. If the
variable name is anything but lake, it seems perfectly content. If
the name is lake, it sometimes core dumps and sometimes gives the
error message,

Error <1>: ack: internal argument list excess
Please report this error!
File: lisp.c, Line: 1378

Is this just something best handled by avoiding the name "lake?"
Sample code is in /u/fowler/geomview/foo/foo.c - it can be run from
the command line. Just type (ack) to call the offending function. I
made it world writable if you want to play with it.
