By default, the geomview appearance controls override any settings you apply
by attaching "appearance" tags to the objects you create.  You could
do either of two things:

    1)   Attach "*" prefixes to those appearance keywords that you want to
	 be immune from geomview control.   E.g.:

	  { appearance { *+edge +face }  OFF ... }

	 should make edges visible on this OFF object, regardless of geomview's
	 controls.  In this example, face drawing would still be subject to
	 the Faces button.

    2)  Or, you can change the way geomview's controls work: see the
	"Override [ao]" button on the appearance panel, or the
	"(ap-override off)" GCL command.  When it's turned off, any
	appearance attached to an object always wins.  So in the example
	above, edges and faces would always be drawn, but e.g. surface-normals
	would still be controlled by the Normals button.
