> it seems that there is no normal defined per facet, ... Yes -- if you use flat shading (the default, as opposed to smooth shading), then normals are defined per facet. They're displayed per vertex for OFF objects, but that just mean you see a cluster of normal-vectors at each vertex, one per adjacent face. (If you use smooth shading, then you see a single normal at each vertex which is a sort of weighted mean of the adjacent face normals.) Other object types: QUADs have per-facet normals, and MESH normals are a bit strange, I'd have to look at the code to see exactly what's displayed for a normal vector. But OFF objects behave as you'd probably wish.
