[ REQ 5307]: a very easy format for geomview to read, Movie.BYU

content-type:text/plain;charset=us-ascii
mime-version:1.0

Hello

I dowloaded geomview 1.5, and found it very usefull.

I have worked with Movie.BYU ( Brian Yound Univerety )formated files. This
formatt is VERY similair to the .off format you support. It cold be a good idea
for you to also support this format.
The formats are pracicaly the same.
The header is almost the same, the node coordinats is the same, and
the conectivety array is very similair ( nodu number .off + 1 = node number
.byu )
The Movie.BYU format is build by 3 files, the geometry file ( .off like)
the scalar file ( scalar value to each node , need to be translated into
colour i think ? ) , and the vector file ( consist of a vector for
each node ).

The Movie.BYU geometry file is suported by an extra module to
the SGI Explorer program system, the original movie.byu package and
the new cquel.byu package.

Your system offers the oppertunety to visualize the files on a PC
running Linux. I have investigated several tools for visualizing
movie.byu file, and you geomview is the onely system i have seen
that is capable of running on a PC running Linux, the other systems
needs much expenciver computers of the workstation class.

I started using the movie.byu format to visualize results from numerical
flow calculations. I developed a system for state of the art visualization
of results from the computer fluid dunamics (CFD) program Pmarc by NASA.

I would be happy to help in anny way if you have questions.
