Right, because SYSLIBS is only used by Makefiles in the src/lib and
src/bin tree and example3.c is not part of that tree. That's why you needed
-liostream actually on the cc command line.

etc...
I'm not sure what could be causing this compile bomb out on the RS6000.
You might try doing a "make depend" in src/lib/gprim/stub before doing a
plain "make", and see if that fixes it (but that really shouldn't have
been necessary). We don't have an RS6000 here at the center so it is kind
of hard for us to diagnose the exact souce of this problem.

You could send mail to Barry Kaufman <SIKBDK at rcinet.utc.com> asking for
precompiled RS6000 libraries. He seemed to have successfully compiled the
Geomview distribution on the RS6000. You might also send mail to the
geomview-users at geom.umn.edu mailing list.
