[ REQ 5351]: external modules

I am wondering if it would be possible to display
the results of a dynamic simulation using geomview
in near-real-time.  I worry that the interpreted
nature of the external modules might make such impractical.

Do you know if anyone has done anything like this before?
Also, it seems to me that I would need some sort of loop
inside my external module.  Does the command language 
support loops?  At first glance I don't see them.
