We've seen this problem before with HPs. The cause of the problem is
probably the X server, which on some HPs presents two different 8 bit
pseudo-color visuals. The motif interface tries to use one of these
visuals and the rendering code tries to use the other. Since both
share the camera window we get the bad match error. We've seen no
other brand of workstation with this strange characteristic of having
two seemingly identical visuals. In any case, we do provide a
version of geomview that's patched up to work around this problem.
Just FTP the following file from ftp.geom.umn.edu:

/priv/daeron/bin/gvx.hp.Z

It's a drop in replacement for the gvx binary that came with your
distribution. Just uncompress it and use it to replace the file:

{GEOMROOT}/bin/x11/gvx

Hope this helps,

Daeron
