Dennis,
This is indeed strange. Here's something to try: The script
"geomview" is a shell script that sets some environment variables
and then fires up the actual executable program, which is
called "gvx" and lives in the bin/sgi directory.

Step 1:
Try running bin/sgi/gvx directly. It should complain about
certain environment variables not being set. If it doesn't get so
far as to do this, then let me know.

Step 2:
If it does, then try setting them by hand, as in

	% setenv GEOMROOT /bla/bla/bla/Geomview
	% setenv GEOMVIEW_LOAD_PATH .:$GEOMROOT/data/geom:$GEOMROOT/data
	% setenv GEOMVIEW_EMODULE_PATH $GEOMROOT/modules/sgi
	% setenv GEOMVIEW_SYSTEM_INITFILE $GEOMROOT/data/.geomview

where you type the absolute pathname of your "Geomview" directory
(the one that the distribution unpacks into) instead of
    /bla/bla/bla/Geomview.

Step 3:
Then try running bin/sgi/gvx again and see what happens.

If it works, then the problem must be with your copy of the
"geomview" shell script. Did you edit it at all? Send us
    a copy if so.

In any case, let me know what happens,

--Mark
