The linux binary distribution was compiled quite a while ago, perhaps in the times of XFree 2.x. Try grabbing ftp://ftp.geom.umn.edu/priv/daeron/bin/gvx.linux.gz. This is a drop-in replacement for the gvx binary. This was linked against XFree 3.x and includes 16bit support and has an improved rendering engine. > I downloaded the source and tried compiling an ELF > version but the executibles don't Make. Evidently the compiler is looking > for Motif (tm) libraries that aren't there. All Linux distributions that I > am aware of come with Fvwm (free) rather than Motif ($$$). You're confusing interface libraries (Motif) and window managers (Fvwm). Motif is indeed a commercial product of the Open System Foundation which provides a higher level programming library on top of Xt. It also includes a window manager called mwm, which is probably what you were thinking of. While in hindsight it would have been better to base the X version on tk/tcl, the person who did the initial port was most familiar with Motif. The next version of geomview will probably provide an ELF binary. However, this depends on one of getting the ambition to recompile Motif for ELF -- not exactly a trivial task. - tor -- Tim Rowley -- trowley at geom.umn.edu -- "Do or do not, there is no try."
