Dear Tim,
I will give you a brief reply now.  More details when
I try all your suggestions

1) I *am* running geomview locally.  I've run it across the
network and found, as you said, that it acts the same 
way (poorly)

2) I have downloaded the software compiled for newer
operating systems but have yet to have the time to 
completely figure out how to install it.

3) my hardware stereo setup seems to be the same 
as you describe.  It acts at 120Hz (60 hz for each eye).
In my own applications I use the stereo_on command 
provided by libstereo.a from the 4Dgifts directory.
(I have a CrystalEyes setup from StereoGraphics)
For the Crimson, I cannot recall what setmon option
worked to get stereo.  After I get geomview installed
I will check the stereo options on the Indigo.  Maybe
it will work here.
