You can grab an SGI executable for Geomview, which uses generic X to display,
by anonymous FTP from geom.umn.edu as priv/slevy/gvx-sgi.X11.gz

This is just a replacement for the .../Geomview/bin/sgi/gvx executable;
other files needn't be replaced.
You'll need GNU zip to decompress it, as in (assuming geomview is installed
under /usr/local/Geomview):

   gzip -d < gvx-sgi.X11.gz > /usr/local/Geomview/bin/sgi/gvx
   chmod +x /usr/local/Geomview/bin/sgi/gvx

Many of Geomview's external modules will still need GL to work, i.e.,
unfortunately, they won't run on an X terminal. Two exceptions are
"Animator" and "Postscript Snapshot", which have plain X/Motif interfaces.
The Maple 3-D graphics connection should also work fine. If you use the
Mathematica connection, it will guess it should try to invoke geomview
remotely, as if your X terminal were a UNIX system. You can convince it
to do the right thing by saying
  <<Geomview.m     (or   <<OOGL.m)
and then entering
  SetOptions[Geomview, DisplayHost -> ""]
