Tim & Stuart,

In case part of my last message did not make sense (why the changes I 
suggested had an effect), it is because it was wrong.

It appears that the command

ln -s libgl.so libgl_s.a

had no effect (and if anything made things slower).

It appears that the only change needed was to take the 
standard executable distribution of Geomview
and unpack Geomview-irix5.tar into the proper directory.

I've discovered this while removing the various test 
copies of geomview that were scattered about my system.
