[ REQ 5834]: question about bitmap output from geomview

I am working on a project which involves making mpeg movies of the
evolution of a dynamically triangulated random surface. I can generate
OOGL files which can be read by geomview. The problem is that I can't
seem to generate a binary .tif file (or other type of bitmap format file)
from geomview. Since I am running on a DEC alpha, the command "(snapshot
cam-id filename)" doesn't exist. On a sgi machine this commmand generates
an .sgi file which can then be converted to a .pnm format using a sgitopnm
command. So I have two questions:

1. Can I run geomview on an sgi while sitting at a DEC machine?
Normally it doesn't work because the sgi has special display hardware.
All I want to do is read in an OOGL file and output a .sgi file; I don't
need to display anything.

2. Is there some other way to generate a binary bitmap file from
geomview running on a DEC workstation? (besides creating a postscript
file and then running ghostscript on it to get a .gif file)

	Thanks very much.
