You probably can find the pbmplus (or netpbm) package on the web somewhere;
possibly a web search would show some Brazilian site which offers it.
If you can't find anything closer, ftp.x.org has it as
	ftp://ftp.x.org/contrib/utilities/netpbm-1mar1994.tar.gz

And yes, there are a couple of ways you can make planar cuts on this object.

First, you can try adjusting the clipping planes -- see the "Cameras" panel
under Inspect. By default, the center of the object you load is at
distance 3 from the camera, so you might set the near clipping plane to
2.9 and the far plane to 3.1. Fly forward and backward to see a sequence of
slices in depth. This method can only show slices seen face-on.

Or, try the program "clip", included in the geomview distribution.
It works from the UNIX command line, not as a geomview external module.
For example, you might say
   clip -v 1,0,0  -g .5  yourobject.off  > plusX.off
to choose the X>0 portion of the object, or
   clip -v 1,.5,.5  -g -.1 -l .1  yourobject.off > slice.off
to choose a .2-unit-thick slice around the origin in the (1,.5,.5) direction.
Then load the resulting files into geomview.
