[ REQ 5883]: Geomview Linux installation

I have just downloaded Geomview for Linux by ftp from your archive and have not
been able to run it. I am a Unix/Linux newbie so please be gentle!

My machine is a 486DX2-66. My internet comunications are done via Internet in a
Box running under Windows 95. I downloaded the file 1.5.0-linux.tar.z to a temp
diirectory on a dosc disk. The file dowmloaded as geomview.z, size 3213965.

I then booted up my Linux partition (kernel version 1.2.8 and XWindows X11R6);
created a directory /geomtemp and copied geomview.z to it. I was able to view
the file and read the lead in verbage which said to "unpack" the file and then
shift to the directory in which the unpacked file was located, type "geomview"
and the program should run.

I "unpacked" the file by running "gunzip geomview.z" The file unpacked with no
error messages and was now named "geomview" still in the /geomtemp directory.
File size is now 9979904. The verbage at the beginning of the file is unchanged.
Running the command "geomview" ellicits the message "Unable to execute a binary
file". I have tried this from an Xterm in XWindows and from the command line.

Obviously I'm missing something very fundamental.
