To get the libraries mentioned in the manual, yes, you would need to
get the source distribution and compile it yourself.

It's of course not essential to use the Geomview/OOGL libraries to write
programs that interact with geomview.  In case you're familiar with
Tcl/Tk, there's a sample program which demonstrates bidirectional
communication, including picking, in
  ftp://geom.umn.edu/priv/slevy/geomview-picker.tcl

To use this you'd need to have tcl/tk installed -- it's available from
ftp://ftp.smli.com:/pub/tcl.

You might want to try the latest beta release of the geomview source:
it's now up for FTP from geom.umn.edu as

   priv/slevy/geomview-161b6-src.tar.gz

I haven't tried it on a Dec Alpha, and it's likely not everything will
build; it's probably best to use "make -k" when building it.
