There is now, finally, at
  ftp://geom.umn.edu/priv/slevy/geomview-161b8-src.tar.gz
along with binary distributions for a number of machine types (sgi, linux, etc.)
In the linux and hpux cases, the binary packages include two geomview
executables, one using our own software renderer, and the other linked with
Mesa 1.2.8.

If you try it, please let us know how it goes.
