[ REQ 6049]: geomView installation problems

Dear Gurus,

I have just installed GeomView on a Sparc under Solaris
and OpenWindows. (But not entirely, see beneath).

It won't work.

===>>    Error: Can't Open display

I have even tested this without installing the patch, in order
to see the explosion, but then I got

         Error: Can't Open display hiram:0

which means that without patches the gvx was a tiny bit more
intelligent, but...

My problem is that I run GeomView on a remote machine under Solaris,
but the display is here, under Linux, XFree, openwin. Its name is, you wouldn't
believe - hiram. Of course, setenv DISPLAY is correct, and I am capable to run
a dozen of other X applications without nuisance. The Geomview is an exception.

I read the docs. Nothing.

Now, I might try to recompile everything, but this is the last thing
I would do if I were me.

Could you help me? Am I the only victim of this - seemingly - quite normal
configuration? Perhaps we have here some bizarre bugs in the system, but
it is difficult to believe. No other application refuses to attach itself
to my PC/terminal.

I have tested it from another Sparc (but remote as well). The same symptoms.

I will lookup the sources in order to find out how the program opens the
display, but it might take long.

Thank you, and sorry for bothering you.
