[ REQ 6108]: tried geomview -opengl, doesn't work

Hello, I tried, as you suggested, geomview -opengl (on our grayscale
HP710 HPUX 10.01).  This works, inasmuch as:  one camera window opens,
empty, and nothing else, cpu usage by the X daemon goes up to 25%, and
nothing happens.  After 1 minute still nothing.  When I press control-c
in my xterm, an X-error gets printed:

X Error of failed request:  BadAlloc (insufficient resources for
operation)

  Current serial number in output stream:  9691

I looked in the html pages but didn't find any trouble-shooting
section.  I tried loading tetra as well, as in the intro in the html
manual suggests.  Any idea what's going wrong?  I just unpacked the
binary distribution for the hp and ran geomview -opengl from there. 
>From what I recall no environment variables need to be set...  hanging
geomview because of that would be rather unlikely in any case.
