Oh, that's interesting.  Are these widgets really part of Mesa?
Maybe you mean their replacement for the GLX drawing-area widget?
If so, that's helpful for geomview graphics windows only -- it doesn't
help with any of the control panels.

Unfortunately, there's lots of control-panel code; rewriting it in another
toolkit wouldn't be an especially easy task.  It would be worthwhile,
certainly, to redo it in (free, widely implemented) tcl/tk, but it's
not something one could do in a few days. 

I've heard of an effort to build a free Motif clone, "lesstif".  I'm not
sure how far along that's gone, but it may be that it would work
well enough.  A web search should turn up something.

Also, if (for your Apollo) you can get the source to Motif, you could
compile the library and build geomview with that, as we do for e.g. linux.
It's not free, but possibly UIUC has a site-license arrangement as the
U of Minnesota does, where there's no charge for internal use of the library
sources.
