Could you tell us which copy of the source release you picked up?
The one you should get is the version to which the web page points,
   ftp://geom.umn.edu/pub/software/geomview/geomview-1.6.1-src.tar.gz

rather than the (much older) geomview-src.tar.gz package.  The 1.6.1 version
should compile properly under FreeBSD, we're told.  We don't have a FreeBSD
system at hand to build a binary release ourselves, though we're told that
the upcoming FreeBSD CD-ROM will include a binary installable package
created by Bill Fenner of Xerox PARC.

We've never tried compiling geomview with lesstif -- assuming the other
problems you're seeing disappear when you use a current geomview version,
we'd be interested to hear whether it works with lesstif.
