Ok, I'm compiling with gcc version 2.7.2. I wrote a sample program to
test the built in defines and it does not define __FreeBSD__. I'm not
sure if that holds for this version of gcc or just this particular
installation.

I've added my own define to mk.FreeBSD but this didn't get too far
because I'm trying to compile with lesstif instead of Motif. I'm
giving up on lesstif and going back to trying to get the admins to
compile Motif on the BSD machines.

Thanks for your help!
